Microcement does not reach its maximum hardness and resistance until 4 weeks after installation, but it can be walked on with care 48 hours after installation, trying to walk on as little as possible.
MICROCEMENT MAINTENANCE
CARE AFTER INSTALLATION
CARE
The first few weeks is when we must be more careful, as the microcement has not yet reached all its properties.
FIRST WEEK
During the first week it can be walked on with care, but it should not be cleaned or moistened. The second week it can be cleaned gently using water.
48 HOURS
After two days it reaches 60% of its properties and chemical resistance, so we should walk on it as little as possible.
FIRST MONTH
Microcement does not reach its maximum hardness until after 4 weeks, so it is advisable to protect the floor as much as possible and be careful not to drag furniture.
DAILY CARE
SOAP AND WATER
We should clean in a similar way to a natural floor, with water and neutral soap, using non-abrasive mops or scouring pads.
WATERPROOFING
At Cemher we have completely waterproof microcement systems, such as the Mineral+Rock and Mineral+Flex systems. With the Mineral system, composed of the most natural traditional microcement, the waterproofing is provided by the sealant, so we should not leave puddles of water or wet objects for a long time as they can leak.
RESISTANCE
It is advisable to use a doormat at the entrance, to avoid sand and stones. The legs of tables and chairs should also be protected, we should avoid dragging objects and be careful with sharp objects.
CHEMICAL RESISTANCE
Products such as bleach, acetone and ammonia – should be used with care – if they are not wiped off from the Surface quickly, they will leave a stain. The same will happen with acid products such as vinegar or lemon, after two hours of continuous contact, they will leave marks on the surface, as these products damage the sealing layer of the microcement.
RENEWING MICROCEMENT
Over the years, depending on how we care for our microcement installation, we must reapply the sealing layer, which will have worn away. Microcement installations can be maintained by applying a new sealing layer, leaving the microcement as good as new.
PRECAUTIONS
BLEACH AND SALFUMAN
Bleach or chlorine-based products, can affect both the colour of the microcement and its resistance. It should not be cleaned with sulphur based or hydrochloric acid products as it can affect its shine.
BLEACH
Do not use for maintenance. When this product remains on the surface for more than 12 hours, the surface may lose its shine.
RESISTANCE
Oils, coffee, wine, soft drinks, etc. could stain the microciment when the sealer loses its resistance.
DO NOT USE
Hydrofluoric acid, Dichloromethane, NaOH – caustic soda, paint removers…
ALKALINE CLEANING PRODUCTS Ph>12
Do not use for maintenance, when these products are in contact with the surface for more than 12 hours, the surface may lose its shine.
TEMPERATURE
Although microcement is capable of withstanding high temperatures for short periods of time, the behaviour is different depending on several factors such as thickness, colour, situation, etc. For this reason, it is not recommended to expose the product to continuous contact with a heat source, nor to place hot pots, frying pans, deep fryers, etc.
The use of table mats is recommended in these situations.
FLOOR PROTECT
Floor protect is a product specially developed for the maintenance and protection of microcement. It waterproofs, revives and protects previously varnished surfaces. It restores light scratches on the floor. It does not contain waxes, so it does not scratch under foot and does not disappear in a short period of time. By simply applying and spreading it with a mop, our floors will be protected for long periods of time.
